There are three ways into a family tree:

🙏 Ask to join (for family members)

Use Request to Join in the menu — or the request card on the tree's page — and say who you are, how you connect, and where you fit (the beginning, middle or end of the tree). The head of that branch checks your evidence, and the tree's admin makes the final decision. Once approved, you are in the tree — and if you have an account with the same email, it is linked to you automatically.

🌿 Already in the tree?

Create a free account, open your own profile, and choose Claim — "This member is me." When the admin approves, your account is linked to your profile, which also lets you open the tree when it is private.

🛠 For the tree's admin

Admins review join requests and claims under Tree Admin → Join requests. An admin can also add someone directly — a newborn, an ancestor, anyone — from Tree Admin → Members → "Add a member directly": name, birth, place and parent, added instantly with no request needed. Branch admins can propose additions inside their branch; the main admin approves them.

Anyone can also suggest additions to a member's biography from their profile — the admin approves those before they appear.

Every tree here is run by its own family admin. The person who starts a tree becomes its admin — and can give admin rights to other members of that tree.

🧠 Smart connections — is your family already here?

Families often get split across two trees. Search your name across every public tree on Family Tree Branch (private trees are never searched for anyone but their own family): if you appear in another tree, you may be its missing branch — join it, or suggest combining the trees instead of starting a duplicate.

🔒 Tree privacy

A public tree can be opened by anyone. A private tree still appears in the directory and in search — people can see that it exists and send a join request — but nobody can open it or see its members except its admins and members who log in with a linked account.

🔗 Member access

People open this tree — including when it is private — by logging in with an account linked to a member. Approving a join request or a claim links that person's account automatically. You can also link someone directly:
